RESEARCHES

The Research Center of GeoSpatial Sensors and Unmanned Platforms (GeoSUP) focuses on sensing technologies with UAVs through interdisciplinary collaboration. We conduct research on topics such as sensor design orientation, platform design, point cloud processing and 3D modeling, cognitive AI, image and video processing, data fusion, and thermogrammetry.

Sensor Design & Orientation

Sensor orientation measures the orientation of the device with respect to the orthogonal coordinate system. The X and Y directions are not fixed to the ground and the Z axis is perpendicular to the ground. The sensor orientation provides general information to describe the direction of the device in a three-dimensional Cartesian system.

Point Cloud Processing & 3D Modeling

A three-dimensional point cloud is created from the images captured by the drone. Each point contains geographic information (X, Y, Z) and color. UAV mapping and information processing help in creating digital terrain models (DTM), digital surface models, orthomosaic maps, and 3D models.

Cognitive AI

Recently, Deep Learning networks have made great strides and are transforming all aspects of human life. These include data analytics, self-driving cars, object recognition, etc. Many applications of Deep Learning Network are related to object recognition and natural language processing, which have received much attention in various applications

Data Fusion

Data fusion is the integration of data sets with a wide variety of information, size, and behavior. So that each part of the final result contains information and resources that are represented differently. This approach is done in order to combine the information of several sources and achieve more consistent, accurate and useful information from each source.Data integration is used in a variety of technologies.

Thermogrammetry

Thermal imaging data is collected in real time from a variety of platforms, including land, water, and air-based vehicles. This technique is superior to visible imaging technologies. Because thermal radiation can penetrate smoke, airborne particles, dust and fog more effectively than visible radiation, it is a completely passive technology that can capture images day and night.

Image and Video Processing

UAV image and video processing provides results such as two- and three-dimensional models and maps, and can be used to create digital models(DSM,DTM) that capture the elevation, ground, and surface of photographed areas. This accurate information is very valuable for mapping UAV applications and can also be used in simulating flight applications.
